Financial technology, commonly referred to as “FinTech”, has been a huge topic of conversion in the last couple of years, with the COVID-19 pandemic only adding emphasis to the importance and need for innovative solutions in the finance industry.
Seychelles is one country pushing towards the implementation of FinTech, having already laid the foundation to be built on. A huge initiative in this direction was carried out in 2019, through an event held at the AVANI Barbarons Seychelles Resort, bringing key stakeholders and global partners together to present and discuss about the opportunities and challenges of building a FinTech platform in Seychelles.
The event included an address by Ms. Caroline Abel, the governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS), followed by presentations covering topics, such as “Fintech Development from a local perspective”, “Developing a Fintech Ecosystem”, “Harnessing Fintech for Financial Inclusion”, among many other intriguing topics.

With the initiatives taken by Seychelles, many are considering the Seychelles islands as a potential Fintech hub in the region.
